Those that dine together, align together!!

A TABLE! Every home has one. How it is used is a different story. Does it become a collector of things, papers, boxes, toys and things that have lost their place. I would like to suggest that the table has lost its place as a central space of communication and connection in the family. The table for me when I work with families is a thermometer of how the family values their interconnectedness. Has dinnertime become as disjointed as a drive through restaurant? Everyone on their own to decide what they need for physical and relational food? Are the seats of the table well worn from use? Or are they rather new with some dust from lack of use?

Does the table serve another purpose? One that more resembles the seats in a theater. Does the table serve as a dinner theater? Providing entertainment from a screen while you dine? What happened to the table's purpose? To gather around and break bread, share stories of the day, commune with the ones we love is what the table is made for. I have seen that when parents bring this purpose back into their homes the family begins to grow and develop together and not apart. Those that dine together align together.

If your table could speak what stories would it tell? Would it be of a family who shares or would it be silent?
